Abstract

Democracy is respected as a universal value of mankind, and various efforts have constantly been exerted to realize it. In democracy, we should take the process of finding out the solutions to problems through conversations and compromises among
people
of different social standings. The democratization movement in Korea was led by college sutdents, and accelerated by the 'July 29 declaration.'
Now is the time we should think how much we are qualified and able to enjoy democracy rather than how much we are able to democratize this society through class straife. There are various problems to be solved in the process of
democratization-problems
brought about by the open-door policy on ideology, problems caused in converting national administration from government-led to civil-led, the conflicts between labor and capital, and the adhesion of economy and politics, etc.
We should not wait for the future passively, but should prepare ourselves for the future and try to reform present states of things to be desirable ones. In realizing democracy in politics and economy, we ought to create a new Korean history of
self-respect by taking a lesson from the policy of seclusion in the 19th century.
